COACHES

Monte Trusty

Owner and Head Coach Monte Trusty has brought a history of high-level success as an athlete, coach, counselor, and mentor to Colorado wrestling. In this role, Trusty will serve as the leader in the development of all MATPAC programs, which include high school and youth wrestling, strength and conditioning, and the wellness program. Trusty strongly believes he has assembled a premier staff that will provide athletes the most current and useful knowledge their given fields have to offer, helping wrestlers reach their fullest potential on and off the mat.

A decorated wrestler himself, Trusty wrestled for Bismarck Century High School, Bismarck, North Dakota, compiling a record of 122-17. He was a four-time state placer, three-time state finalist, two-time state champion, and voted “Mr. Wrestler”, during his senior year, for the state’s most outstanding wrestler. He concluded his high school career with All- American honors and was a member of the prestigious Dapper Dan Classic USA team.

The Nation’s sixth ranked 125-pounder continued his education and wrestling career at the University of Mary, Bismarck, ND under his father and Hall of Fame coach Milo Trusty. While at the University of Mary, Monte earned All-American status two times, placing third as a sophomore and winning the 142-pound NAIA National title as a junior and was also honored as North Dakota Male College Athlete of the Year in 1992.

During his senior year, Trusty transferred to Oregon State University where he was ranked among the Nation’s top 142-pound wrestlers. Despite not reaching his goal of becoming a NCAA DI All-American, Trusty was a contributing member to the Beavers PAC 10 Championship and fourth place NCAA finish. He finished his college career with a record of 114-19.

Trusty has more than 20 years of coaching experience at various levels. Prior to opening MATPAC Wrestling-Colorado, Trusty began his coaching career under his father and founder of MATPAC Wrestling, Milo Trusty, in the late eighties. During these years, Monte guided dozens of wrestlers into State, Regional and National Championships. Trusty was also a North Dakota Cadet and Junior National team coach that produced two National titles and numerous All-Americans. In addition to his youth and prep coaching experience, Monte spent several years coaching at the collegiate level, again under his father Milo Trusty, at the University of Mary. Monte Trusty was instrumental in developing the Marauder program into one of the premier “small school” wrestling programs in the nation. During his tenure, he coached four National Champions and twenty All-Americans. Trusty earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from University of Mary in 1996.

Since moving to Colorado in 2000, Coach Trusty has privately coached and trained some of the state’s most decorated wrestlers. More recently, Monte accepted the head wrestling coach position with Windsor High School, where he looks to make an immediate positive impact on the program. Prior to joining Windsor High School in 2008, Monte spent time with Loveland High School.
Coach Trusty provides young wrestlers of all ages and abilities with year-round opportunities for growth and development through effectively teaching the physical skills, rules, and strategies of the sport in an orderly and enjoyable environment.

Trusty’s MATPAC offers a wide range of programs and services—from beginner-level sessions for wrestlers with no experience to advanced high school programs that provide world-class training for optimal performance at the National level.

Drawing on many years of experience, Monte has developed a highly effective style and proven coaching philosophy that has produced positive results. Coach Trusty’s varied background in youth, high school, and college coaching provide the perfect ingredients for Colorado wrestlers to achieve success at all levels.
Passionate about continuing and elevating the success of MATPAC Wrestling and its possibilities, Monte’s goal is to provide a stable, long-lasting, positive training environment that will lay the foundation for current and future Colorado wrestlers.

Milo Trusty

Legendary Hall of Fame Coach Milo Trusty, founder of MATPAC Wrestling, is responsible for leading the youth development programs. Milo coordinates all aspects of the MATPAC "system" with a plan of action that includes consistent and systematic technical instruction, interjecting sound discipline and listening qualities, and mental preparation that encourages wrestlers to put forth their best efforts. Coach Trusty believes wrestling is a great tool for teaching young athletes life skills and creates positive experiences not only in the sport but beyond.

A firm believer in a “positive approach”, Milo aims at strengthening the desired behaviors through the use of encouragement, positive reinforcement, and technical instruction.
Coach Trusty is no stranger to wrestling, having spent the past 50 years as an athlete, coach and mentor, which taught him the positive benefits of participation in the sport of wrestling.
Prior to joining his son, Monte, with MATPAC Colorado, Trusty spent 30 years as head coach for the original MATPAC in Bismarck, North Dakota, which he founded in 1978. (see history)

In addition to his MATPAC coaching duties, Milo spent fourteen seasons as head wrestling coach at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. During his tenure with the Marauders, Milo’s squads compiled a dual record of 135-10, produced 78 NAIA All-Americans, 13 National Champions, and seven top four National team finishes, earning runner-up honors three times.

Milo retired from the college scene in 2002 and was inducted into the ND Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2005.

Milo strives to help young wrestlers achieve their goals on a difficult path by his renowned positive coaching style, clear communication and instilment of a hard work ethic. Milo offers a wide range of expertise, from effectively teaching the physical skills of the sport to teaching desirable personal, social, and psychological skills, thus building good characters off the mat.

Milo is also available for private and small group consultations, team clinics, and video analysis.
