MATPAC Wrestling
is, first and foremost, a competitive wrestling program that is celebrating 30 years of developing young men into champions on and off the mat. MATPAC is a proven “system” that focuses on  world-class technique for all ages, and teaches the value of having fun, hard work, never giving up, and “winning will take care of itself” philosophy.



 


 

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

BIG HORN WRESTLING NATIONALS

Joshua Villa and Jordan Henrickson won individual titlles at the Big Horn Wrestling Nationals, November 6th.  Villa won his title in the High School 100 lb division, while Henrickson defeated fellow MATPAC wrestler Kennen Lanteri in the finals of the 145 lb division.  Josh Donkle, Vincent Gonzales, Joseph Keller and Zak Kaderka all placed second.  Matteo Ambriz and Dan MacCoubrie finished 3rd.  Other MATPAC place-winners were; Morgan Fogg 6th, Joel Salomon 6th (defaulted at semis due to injury), Benjamin Hewson 5th and Nick Hale 5th.  Jordan Henrickson also was awarded the tournaments Outstanding Wrestler.  Congratulations to all!

 

KUCK AND HENRICKSON PLACE 5TH AT PRESEASON NATIONALS

Jack Kuck (Windsor) and Jordan Henrickson (Loveland) both placed 5th at the Fourth Annual USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  This years tournament drew 1650 wrestlers from 40 States, making it one of the largest single day wrestling tournaments in the World.

Both Kuck and Henrickson wrestled their way to the semi-finals before being knocked down to the consolation bracket.  Kuck (220 lbs) lost on a takedown in overtime to #1 seed Alex Bambic of Arizona, while Henrickson (145 lbs) gave up a late reversal in the last seconds to Bo Nickal of Texas, losing 4-2.  Henrickson finished 5th with an injury default over Connor Bass of Illinois.  Kuck major decisioned Chad Pohlmeier (Iowa) 17-5 to place 5th.

Joel Salomon (Windsor), Cosme Martinez (Windsor) and Vinny Gonzales (Windsor) all wrestled deep into the tournament falling one match shy of placing.  Other MATPAC wrestler's that participated were; Josh Villa, Clayton Robinson, Jonathan Lewis, Jay Ytell, Mark Edmonds, Josh Donkle, Nicholas Hall, Nick Hale, Kennen Lanteri, Troy Carroll, Joseph Keller, Guys Peters, Matteo Ambriz, Nolan Moore, William Henrickson and Jake Trusty.

 

MATPAC FALL PRESEASON PROGRAM STARTS SEPTEMBER 13TH!

MATPAC'S fall preseason program will start Tuesday, September 13th and will run through Thursday, November 3rd.  The 16 session program will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:30 PM-8:30 PM in the Windsor High School wrestling room.  This program is intended for the dedicated and serious athlete who is motivated to seek the best possible training.  Last fall many Colorado State Champions, finalists, state place-winners and state qualifiers from all four classifications from Northern Colorado participated in the program, helping them reach their fullest potential.

The cost of the program is $150.00 with additional family members discounted 50%.  You must have a valid USA Wrestling card prior to the first day of practice.  For more information please call Coach Trusty at 970-218-1056.

MATPAC WRESTLER'S GO 12-0 AT PAONIA SUMMER DUALS

Team MATPAC competed at the annual Paonia Summer Duals which consists of 28 teams from 5 states.  During the two-day event the 28 teams combined to wrestled 168 duals!  MATPAC walked through the field wrestling to a 12-0 dual record, outscoring it's twelve opponents 902-129!  Clayton Robinson, Joel Salomon and Mark Edmonds all finished the two-day event with perfect 12-0 records.  Congratulations on a great weekend of wrestling.

TWO TIME STATE CHAMPION NATHANIEL GARCIA ACCEPTS FULL SCHOLARSHIP

MATPAC wrestler and Windsor High School graduate Nathaniel Garcia accepted

a full scholarship to continue his education and wrestling career at Northwest

Wyoming in Powell, Wyoming.  Garcia helped the Wizard's win the 4A

State Team Title by winning his second consecutive State Title by pinning

two time State Champion Nick Adams of Discovery Canyon.

Garcia finished his high school career with an amazing 157-5 record, finishing

runner-up twice and State Champion twice.  Garcia is currently ranked

17th at 140 pounds in the United States by USA Wrestling magazine.

MATPAC WRESTLER'S WIN 11 STATE FREESTYLE/GRECO ROMAN TITLES

Joel Salomon, Vincent Gonzales, Mark Edmonds and Austin Harris won double State Titles May 20th & 21st at the CUSAW State Freestyle & Greco Roman Championships in Pueblo, CO.  Jack Kuck and Sawyer Novara just missed out earning double titles with each of them earning a title and runner-up finish in the two styles.  Matteo Ambriz, Schoolboy 98 pounds also won a Freestyle title bringing the total count to 11.

TYLER GRAFF AT MATPAC MAY 17TH & 19TH

University of Wisconsin 2X NCAA All American and USA World Freestyle Team hopeful, Tyler Graff will be instructing MATPAC practices Tuesday, May 17th & Thursday, May 19th.  This will be a great opportunity for all young athletes to be inspired by one of the best competitors in the United States.  Tyler will be competing at 60 KG at the World Team Trials, June 9-11th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; the winner of the trials will represent the USA at the World Championships, September 12-18th in Istanbul, Turkey.

 

MATPAC WRESTLER AUSTIN HARRIS SIGNS WITH WESTERN STATE

Austin Harris from Windsor High School signed a NLI to attend and wrestle for NCAA II power Western State College in Gunnison, CO.  Coach Miles Van Hee's Mountaineers finished 5th at the 2011 NCAA II National Championships.  This past winter Harris help lead Windsor to the 4A State Team Championship, winning 42 matches as a senior with 30 falls en route to a 3rd place finish at the state tournament.  Congratulations Austin, we look forward to watching you compete at the next level.

MATPAC WINS 4TH ANNUAL PONDEROSA FREESTYLE DUALS 

Team MATPAC went 4-0 in dual action this past Saturday at the 4th Annual Ponderosa Freestyle Dual Tournament.
In pool action MATPAC defeated Fountain Fort Carson, Western Slope All-Stars and Ponderosa earning the right to take on Pomona in the finals.  MATPAC defeated Pomona 36-28 in an exciting back and forth dual for the team title.
 
On top of great wrestling action from the athletes I believe we had the largest contingent of family and fans cheering in the stands.  Outstanding job parents and friends, your support is second to none!

NHSCA NATIONAL WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Six MATPAC Wrestler's represented Colorado at the National High School Coaches Association 22nd Annual High School Wrestling Nationals Championship event that took place March 29th-April 3rd at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA. A total of 2,662 competitors from 48 wrestling states registered to compete in this event. Across all four divisions (SR, JR, SO, FR) over 700 of the individuals had won at least one state title throughout their career.
The Senior Nationals alone boasted 14 4x state champions, 39 3x state champions, 87 2x state champions and 170 1x state champions.

Senior MATPAC wrestler's included, Connor Medbery (Loveland), Nathaniel Garcia (Windsor) and Austin Harris (Windsor).  Seth Villa (Windsor) and Jordan Henrickson (Loveland) competed in the Junior division while Kennen Lanteri (Windsor) wrestled 135 pounds in the Freshman Nationals.

Henrickson earned his first All American honors by defeating Alex Rice (Maryland) 6-2 at 135 pounds for 5th place while fellow Loveland High School teammate, Connor Medbery added a NHSCA National title to go along with his USA Wrestling Cadet National title by defeating Colin Campbell (NC) 3-1 in the finals.

Congratulations to all these fine young men on their outstanding accomplishments.  You represented the State of Colorado, MATPAC and your respective High Schools very well.  Keep up the hard work.
